>> Hey guys, I'm Brian Tong with CNET TV and what I've got in my hand is the new Sony HDR SR-12; it's their newest camera and it's got some really great hot features. Now one of them it's their first camera to shoot a 1920 by 1080 so you're gonna get the full AC spectrum here. It's also got a 12X optimal zoom and for still pictures you're getting 10.2 megapixels; some of their previous models the image model was mediocre but not with this guy. Now here's some other great things; it's got face detection and what that means is you've seen it a lot in still cameras but not in video cameras so when I move it around a box appears around someone's face; it will help to focus and correct the color and the brightness around that. Now one other hot thing about this is is it has a built-in zoom that syncs with the microphone and what that really allows you to do is when I'm going wide on a subject, it includes all the sound around me, but when I zoom in tight it's gonna focus on that subject, maybe if someone is singing in a choir, so that's another crazy feature. And finally, it's a Hybrid camera so what it does is it has a 120 gig hard drive but it also has room for a memory stick pro from Sony; and what that allows you to do is take all your video content that's stuck on the 120 hard drive then you can select pieces of it, pop it onto your memory stick pro and take that memory stick pro, pop it into your computer and you've got the clips you want. So the Sony HDR 4SR-12 super hot camera, a lot of new features and it's gonna be a great toy. It's coming out in March and the retail price will be 1400 dollars. I can't wait to check it out. ^M00:01:28 [ Music ] ^M00:01:35

Avg user rating
Very good
8.9
out of 10

The good: Excellent video and performance; impressive still photos for a camcorder; adequate manual controls; nice CAM CTL dial; docking station included.

The bad: No wind filter; doesn't include mini HDMI cable.

The bottom line: Sony's Handycam HDR-SR11 and SR12 60GB hard-drive-based AVCHD camcorders deliver top notch performance and image quality.
